Poughkeepsie Day Nursery offers a Universal Pre-Kindergarten class from September to June following the public school calendar. This unique program is for Poughkeepsie City residents and is a 21/2 hour program paid for by the school district, designed to prepare children for Kindergarten in the district.
We are presently offering two sessions of UPK at the Poughkeepsie Day Nursery, starting at 8:30 am and finishing at 11 am and an afternoon session beginning at 12:30 pm and ending at 3:00 pm. A certified teacher and an assistant teacher facilitate the UPK Curriculum which includes emergent literacy, language development, math and science skills and concepts, and also includes outdoor play time. The children are served breakfast during the am session and lunch during the pm session. Transportation is provided by the school district for this program.
Who is Eligible?
Poughkeepsie City Residents who have a child who will be turning four on, or before December 1st, are eligible to apply for the UPK program.
-- Registration forms for this program are available at the Poughkeepsie City School District, 11 College Avenue, Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
-- Parents must provide proof of residency, the child's birth certificate and an up to date, complete physical, including immunization records.
-- Space in the program is limited and applications are drawn through a lottery system.
-- In the event your child's name is not chosen, you will be put on a waiting list and called if an opening should become available.

Full Day Care
Your child may stay at the Poughkeepsie Day Nursery for a full day even if your child is part of the UPK program. We will easily transition your child to a full day classroom before and after each session in UPK. You will be charged our part time tuition rate for the full 10 hour day.
