We are proud to be recognized as one of the oldest Child Care and Early Education Centers in the nation and are currently serving our third generation of children. The Poughkeepsie Day Nursery provides an Open Court Curriculum combined with an atmosphere of the three L's: Love, Laughter and Learning, to help our children develop into well adjusted, responsible and productive adults. The curriculum provides meaningful experiences in a safe nurturing atmosphere. Every child is encouraged to do their best and to develop a love for learning.
The philosophy at the Poughkeepsie Day Nursery is that children learn through play, exploration and discovery.
The Pre-school and Pre-kindergarten curriculum is specifically designed to prepare children for their public school experience and focuses on language development, reading readiness, math, science and social and emotional growth. Hands-on activities and open-ended projects stimulate a child's curiousity while building self-esteem. Our interactive curriculum allows children the opportunity to develop eye/hand coordination and to develop fine motor skills.
The Poughkeepsie Day Nursery believes that parents are their children's primary teachers and we strive to make the Nursery an extension of the children's home. Communication between home and school is an essential ingredient and is accomplished by daily entries in a notebook that is sent home with each child.
School wide events are planned throughout the year and families are encouraged to join in on the fun. Some of these events include a Fall Festival, Thanksgiving Feast, Mother's Day Breakfast, and Family Picnic.
By virtue of our philosophical vision we have maintained a reputation for
safe, quality Early Care and Education in our community for over 100 years.
